Ambassadors are often seen as the face of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce. When an ambassador sells $10,000 worth of membership dues, they are recognized for the contribution by becoming a recipient of the Bob Goodwin award.
For Steve Brooks, Territory Manager with Heartland Payment Systems, being a McAllen Ambassador is a way of life. For 14 years Brooks has done his best to emulate Bob Goodwin, who was a mentor to him and so many others.
“It’s an honor to win this award because Bob Goodwin was a legend,” Brooks said. “I’ve tried to follow in his footsteps by attending the majority of the ribbon cuttings, mixers, and Chamber events. I meet so many different people – business owners I might never have known about without this opportunity.”
“Talking about the Chamber also helps me get my foot in the door with a potential new client,” he added.
Brooks helps new members understand that making the most of their membership means participating as much as possible, even becoming an Ambassador.
“I’m still having fun with it,” he said. “I am with the strongest Chamber in the Rio Grande Valley, and I serve gladly, knowing that Heartland and the Brooks name have become synonymous with the McAllen Chamber.”
