The Valley, like an island of innovation deep down in the tip of Texas, keeps adding to its list of unique services available for events in the area. The latest is Kairos Coffee Catering, named after the Greek word meaning “an opportune time”.
Gabriel and Jessica Sanchez, owners, are longtime coffee aficionados who dreamt of one day owning a coffee business. The two first met as teens on a mission trip, then again after five years when Jessica was attending Christian Bible college in Chicago, where she was studying linguistics and working in a coffee shop.
“I learned the ins and outs of the business and how to make all the drinks,” Jessica revealed. “Gabriel learned also.”
Dating led to the next step, marriage. A few years later, and after adding a little one to the family, they decided to move to the Valley to be closer to family.
“Literally, in the car on the way down to the Valley, we felt God spoke to us and said, ‘It’s time to go for it.’” Jessica said of their decision. “That’s how we also chose the name for our company.”
Designing their cart and painting it with their logo, the Sanchez’s kicked off their coffee catering business.
“We found a local coffee shop where we can purchase our freshly roasted beans and made our plan. We would cater for public and private events, weddings, anniversaries, quinceaneras, birthday parties, churches, and schools, which are good for teachers.” She expounded. “We even have a hot herbal tea station if requested. It all depends on the package chosen, including customization of the cups.”
Winning the McAllen Chamber’s Good Pitch Competition was a major boost for them.
“We brought our cart and I handed out beverages while Jessica presented the pitch,” Gabriel explained, grinning.
“I was nervous but it meant a lot to us to be able to win that award,” Jessica gleamed. “We opened last October and it’s been a grand adventure!”
