MXLAN 2023 brought a vibrant fusion of culture, art and entertainment over the three-day festival at the McAllen Convention Center.
The celebration of Latino influence on popular culture brought more than 18 experiences to our community. Friday morning kicked off with an International Economic Summit of presidents and international entrepreneurs who gave crucial economic insights. Senior Advisor to the Mexico Institute in Washington, D.C. Duncan Wood, Ph.D., shed light on the current state of relations between Texas, The United States and Mexico during his keynote speech.
From the moment attendees stepped foot into the festival grounds, they were greeted by a lively atmosphere brimming with color, music and aromas from local food vendors. Each day came alive with the spirited Calenda Parade, an enchanting display of Oaxacan tradition. Adults and children alike cheered and danced alongside performers, marching bands, regional dancers and horse riders.
A sold-out 5k neon race also took place, setting the city aglow. Hundreds of spirited runners took to the illuminated streets igniting the night with their determination. Meanwhile, inside the Convention Center, attendees browsed the Artisan Mercado exploring sponsor booths, with giveaways, and witnessing live muralists creating art. Children enjoyed creating their own masks to wear and visitors had the opportunity to express their gratitude on colorful ribbons and attach them to the Gratitude Tunnel.
Saturday night brought its premium ticketed event, Spirts Mezcal & Tequila Tasting presented by L&F Distributors. Attendees indulged in mezcal and tequila tastings, five signature drinks and sampling from over 15 local restaurants.
