What motivated you to start this business?
My love of ballet and teaching children was my motivation to start Deborah Case Dance Academy.
What is the history of your business?
The Dance Academy began March 1st, 1993. Prior to that, I was principal dancer of Rio Grande Valley Ballet, ballet master for Doria Avila Dance Academy and assistant artistic director to Mr. Avila. With a handshake in the studio parking lot, Mr. Avila turned over the studio to me, appointed me as artistic director of Rio Grande Valley Ballet and sold me the property.
What product/special services do you offer?
We teach ballet, pointe, tap, contemporary, hip hop, pre ballet, pre tap, adult ballet, adult contemporary, adult hip hop classes to ages 3 years to adult.
What makes your business product/service standout from the rest?
The Deborah Case Dance Academy is the home of Rio Grande Valley Ballet. Our ballet training follows the Russian Vaganova syllabus.
As a small business owner, what does business means to you?
The Deborah Case Dance Academy means opportunities to connect with children and adults through dance. It is my greatest joy teaching highly motivated and creative dancers. The business gives me an opportunity, to not only train young dancers, but to educate and inspire young adults to work with others in a professional environment.
Are you involved in any initiatives that give back to the community? If so, please elaborate.
Yes. I serve on vestry at St. John’s Episcopal church, I am also a Lay Eucharist Minister and lector with the church.
I am the artistic director with Rio Grande Valley Ballet where I manage and oversee over 7,500 school children attending student matinees of The Nutcracker. This tradition has been taking place for 50 years. I have also served on the Texas Commission on the Arts Advisory committee.
