JORGE A. FLORES
PRINCIPAL AND OFFICE MANAGER
Terracon Consultants, Inc., is a multi-discipline civil engineering company ranked 24th on Engineering News-Recordís list of Top 500 Design Firms. It specializes in environment, facilities, geotechnical, and materials engineering.
“We’re a niche,” states Jorge A. Flores, principal and office manager at Terracon. “We’ll give civil engineers of a project an evaluation of the soil on their sites. This gives them the information they’ll need to design their plan. We then test their materials for the build – concrete, for example – to insure the quality of the materials.”
Terracon can determine leaks in gas station underground tanks and clean the soil. It has a local asbestos team that performs indoor air quality tests, and so much more. Check out their www.terracon.com website. Projects include Bert Ogden Arena, the 32-story Sapphire Condominiums at South Padre Island, UTRGV Medical School, and the new Hidalgo Courthouse are some of its major projects in the Valley.
With safety as the number one priority, this 54-year-old company provides services in 150 offices located in all 50 states.
But what this 4,000 employee, 100 percent employee-owned company is most proud of is Terracon Foundation. The Foundation includes a formal focus on education, and awarded $104,200 in scholarships in 2018. The foundation’s goal is to give back to the communities it serves through the Employee Matching Gift Program for local organizations and community and university grants.
Proud of the trophies for participation in the American General Contractors’ Fajita Cookoff, over half of the 25 local employees of scientists, engineers, and engineering technicians, are in the decade club, showing the stability of the company and their satisfaction in what they are doing.
