Humberto Tijerina, III
Chief Visionary Officer
Ever since he was young, Humberto Tijerina, III, Chief Visionary Officer of Tijerina Legal Group PC, his path clearly laid out in front of him. He would be a fighter for the underdog.
“I always had an affinity for making sure if somebody was bullied, I would either put a stop to it or help that person not get bullied again,” Tijerina said.
Law seemed a natural fit for this man who was always so willing to fight for justice. Choosing the scholarship to Southern Methodist University (SMU) over one to the University of Houston, Tijerina earned his law degree and then began practicing business/corporate law. He first worked for a firm in San Antonio but felt limited with only reading and modifying contracts and with drafting agreements between companies. He missed the people aspect of law.
When a friend called and suggested they start their own firm, he leapt at the chance and returned to the Valley where he had spent many years of his youth with his neurosurgeon father and family. In 2008, he broke away and opened Tijerina Legal Group PC, right in the middle of the recession. Along with his Brownsville office, he expanded his McAllen location by incorporating his father’s office space after his retirement four years ago.
Tijerina wants his work to make an impact, and sees law as a service not only to his clients, but also to the community, always following the driving question in his head, “How can I do this better?”
“We’re here to be a guiding light for people,” he said. “When somebody comes in here suffering because they do not know what to do, are confused and in pain, I take care of them. I help them get access to quality medical treatment and make sure they don’t get taken advantage of by an insurance company.
“That’s why I love what I do. It’s David versus Goliath!”
