Omar Quintanilla
Vice-President, Frost Bank,
City of McAllen Commissioner District 3
With his degree in Finance, Omar Quintanilla began his almost 20-year banking career with the only bank on his business path, Frost Bank. After a year in the downtown San Antonio home office, he made a career move back down to his home turf, The Valley.
“I’ve always liked analyzing financial statements and dealing with the business community,” he declared. “I especially like working with entrepreneurs and their companies.”
Quintanilla, is Vice-President of Frost Bank and also serves as District 3 City of McAllen Commissioner. He began his service with the City of McAllen after he completed the Class 20 Leadership Course, when organizers suggested graduates join a city advisory board. Taking the knowledge of the over 30 city departments and their functions that he had gleaned from the class, Quintanilla became a member of the Community Development Block Grant board. Membership gave him a keen awareness of the needs of the community and local non-profits such as Mujeres Unidas, Amigos del Valle and Comfort House.
“I moved on to the Library Advisory Board, and then served on the Mayor’s Prayer Luncheon committee, as well as the Amigos del Valle board,” he continued.
With a passion for finance and government, Quintanilla used the support he gathered during his bid for a commission seat four years ago to propel him into a win this year. He is ready to put his 15 years of service with the city to good use as commissioner.
“I plan to help the city grow revenues, be conservative in its spending, and attract more businesses to McAllen,” Quintanilla said. “In the long run I think that’s going to benefit everybody, and ultimately increase the quality of life in the city.”
Keeping busy as one of two commission representatives on the Chamber board, he is also on the insurance and technology committees for the city. Quintanilla enjoys his work as a commissioner, yet reserves quality time for his family and his hobbies of running and mountain biking.
How he does it all, only God knows. Besides putting his emphasis on being a good banker, this man strives to serve his community and God, and is surely showing how it can all be done.
