Texas Workforce Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III addressed more than 50 community business leaders Thursday afternoon at the Government Affairs Council meeting.
Treviño, a Harlingen native, was appointed January 2023 by Governor Gregg Abbott. During the GAC lunch meeting, he spoke about the role the Rio Grande Valley has in Texas workforce. Some of his priorities include occupational and vocational training to develop a stronger workforce and education efforts with young children to prepare them for various occupations.
TWC is the state agency charged with overseeing and providing workforce development services to employers and job seekers. Three full-time commissioners are appointed to the TWC by Governor Abbott, one each representing employers, labor, and the public. Together, they oversee the functioning of the TWC and develop agency policy.
Commissioner Representing Employers Aaron Demerson was also in attendance and took time to applaud the McAllen Chamber’s efforts through its Public Policy department, “Success happens when you combine workforce, economic development and education.”
GAC, sponsored by South Texas Health System, Boggus Ford McAllen and McAllen International Airport, is offered to all Chamber members who are interested in connections with policy makers and engaging with civic leaders in meaningful dialogue surrounding key issues.
