We’re celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week!
The tourism department kicked off the celebration with a press conference this morning at the McAllen Convention Center.
Officials from the City of McAllen, Metro McAllen, McAllen-Hidalgo and Anzalduas International Bridges, McAllen International Airport and McAllen Convention Center each spoke about the impact the travel and tourism industry has on our local economy.
McAllen City Commissioner District 5 Victor “Seby” Haddad read an official proclamation declaring May 7-13 as “National Travel and Tourism Week.” NTTW works to promote travel and tourism in communities all over the U.S. This year marks the 40th anniversary with its theme being “Travel Forward.”
The celebration will continue with a “Destination Celebration” open to the community tomorrow May 9 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at La Plaza Mall in the expansion green space. Those in attendance can expect food, drinks, virtual arcade games, a live DJ, photo opportunities and more. The first 100 people will receive free swag bags.
A social media scavenger hunt with prizes will also take place this week. Please follow Visit McAllen on all social media platforms for more information on how to participate.
The week celebration will be capped off by an “Industry Appreciation” event on Thursday from 3-5 p.m. at Quinta Mazatlán where the Tourism department will be honoring and celebrating travel and tourism partners.
