McAllen, Texas – September 26, 2022 – McAllen Chamber President & CEO Josh Mejia has been appointed as board member of the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), a non-profit and non-partisan membership organization serving economic developers. His term will begin January 2023.
IEDC is the largest organization of its kind with more than 5,000 members that engage in making economic prosperity and sustainable economic development initiatives a priority in communities of all sizes and at every level of government. IEDC does this by professionalizing and diversifying the economic development field, providing world-class services to its members, increasing its policy, leadership, advocacy efforts and becoming the number one source of economic development knowledge and expertise.
“On behalf of IEDC Nominating Committee Chair Tom Kurcharski, I am thrilled to formally notify that McAllen Chamber & CEO Josh Mejia will serve a two-year term on the IEDC Board of Directors. We are excited to have Mr. Mejia join our board and we are appreciative of his commitment to the organization and to the economic development field,” said IEDC President & CEO Nathan Ohle.
Mejia will represent the City of McAllen as one of five economic development professionals from Texas in the IEDC Board of Directors. The board is made up of other economic development leaders throughout the country and internationally.
“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve in this great organization both domestically and internationally,” said McAllen Chamber President & CEO Josh Mejia. “IEDC’s reputation as a leading organization in economic development is impeccable. My hope is to provide substantial added value to the organization, innovate in the field of economic development, connect Washington D.C. to McAllen and most importantly represent our business community on an international level.”
In 2001, the American Economic Development Council (AEDC) and the Council for Urban Economic Development (CUED) merged to form the world’s preeminent organization of economic developers: the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).
