The Holiday Parade and Christmas in the Park starts this coming week, and you don’t want to miss one of the premier events in Texas. I don’t know how many times I have heard people complain that there’s nothing to do in McAllen. The truth is that the city puts on this award-winning parade right here in our backyard and it’s free to watch. The Holiday Parade is the best parade in Texas (it’s not bragging if it’s the truth) and it has won numerous international awards.
What a great opportunity to invite family from other parts of Texas or northern Mexico to come see and experience the parade and to spend great family time together here in the Valley. Thursday, November 30th starts the weekend off with the Heart of America Carnival, with unlimited rides for $10 (50% discount) for kids to enjoy a quality carnival and games.
On Friday, December 1st, David Lee Garza y Los Musicales performs at 8:30 PM on the mainstage and Jimmy Gonzalez y Groupo Mazz performs at 9:30 PM after Los Musicales. The concerts are free and this is a great way to enjoy these Grammy-winning bands. On Saturday, December 2, after the parade, Solido plays at 8:30 PM on the mainstage, and that concert is also free. The music is fantastic, and you don’t to miss any of these bands.
The Pena Eye Institute is bringing in the Cowboys Cheerleaders, the Dallas Cowboys Pro Shop and the Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame. Also, Rowdy (the Cowboys’ mascot), Tony Dorsett and Tony Hill, two great legends for the Cowboys, and current Cowboys Ryan Switzer (#10) and DeMarcus Lawrence (#90) will be with us.
Also, during Christmas in the Park on Friday, there will be a static display (wind permitting) of the helium balloons that will be in the parade on Saturday. This will be a chance to get to see the balloons up close. The other exciting attraction at Christmas in the Park will be the world-renowned Budweiser Clydesdales. These horses are huge and beautiful, and you don’t want to miss this opportunity to see the horses up close and personal. Thanks to L&F Distributors for bringing the Clydesdales to South Texas.
The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile will also be at the park and in the parade. TV personality Ana Maria Polo, who has a huge following on Facebook, will be in the parade. There are a ton of things to do net weekend and I hope you take advantage of this world-class event and enjoy something that you will see at no other place in the State of Texas.
The on question I get every year the parade rolls around is “What will City Commissioner John Ingram dress as for this year’s parade?” I don’t know, but I can tell you the commissioner will go all out. Mayor Darling has even proposed putting Commissioner Ingram at the front of the parade because of his costumes. We will find out soon enough.
See you in Mcallen November 30th through December 2nd
