The City of McAllen has been chosen to host the P.O.N.Y. International Softball World Series tournament for the second consecutive summer.
There will be 120 teams expected to compete from the U.S. Puerto Rico and International teams including Mexico and Philippines at the McAllen Youth Baseball Complex, McAllen Municipal Park and West Side Park.
During a press conference held to announce the 2023 event, McAllen Chamber of Commerce Sports Manager Julian Gutierrez presented the 2022 Champion of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism to P.O.N.Y., McAllen Boys & Girls Club, City of McAllen Parks & Recreation and the Chamber for last summer’s event that resulted in a $1.3 million economic impact to the city.
McAllen Boys & Girls Club officials announced the Opening Ceremony will be at Veterans Memorial Stadium on July 19 followed by the first pitch to start the tournament on July 20th.The five-day tournament is expected to bring 10,000 visitors for the summer classic.
