What motivated you to start this business?
The inception of this business was conceived on the notion of supplying conveniently packaged Grab & Go Ready to Eat Meals. The meals are balanced and well portioned to all those who need adequate nutrition to supplement their busy lifestyle or fitness goals. Fork To Fit Kitchen is on a quest to revolutionize the way people eat for a happier, healthier society.
What is the history of your business?
Fork To Fit Kitchen was originally named, “Fork To Fit Meals,” and operated out of The Gym at Uptown in McAllen with only one double door retail fridge in 2017. Fitness trainer Alex Velasco and his training buddy Jose Guerra partnered up to organize an operation that provided well balanced and portioned meals to gym-goers who needed assistance introducing new diet habits into their lifestyle.
After a couple months of amazing retail success at the gym, Alex & Jose made the investment to design and build their first storefront in a vacant suite at Trenton View Plaza on N. 10th St. in McAllen. After months of organizing, planning, hiring, and training, Fork To Fit Kitchen opened up on June 14th, 2018, with a staff of 8 enthusiastic individuals on a journey to serve amazing products and services to the community.
Since then, Fork To Fit Kitchen has expanded to 5 stores, 115 employees and counting! All with that same vision and drive to serve the community every day.
What product/special services do you offer?
Fork To Fit Kitchen offers a wide variety of well-balanced, well-portioned, grab and go meals that are all under 560 calories and stocked fresh at all locations 5 days out of the week! Each Fork To Fit Kitchen location is also fully equipped with a drink bar that produces made-to-order protein shakes, juice blends, acai bowls, iced coffee and other delicious, iced beverages. Our store operation and services are designed for efficiency and convenience to the customer and our enthusiastic team of ‘Shakeoligists’ are always delighted to help.
What makes your business product/service standout from the rest?
At Fork To Fit Kitchen, customers have the liberty to walk into any location and take their pick of any delicious meals in our categorized and color coordinated retail fridges. Customers do not need to pay any subscription, be on a restrictive meal plan, or pay large sums of money up front for a bulk order of meals that will go bad in their fridges after 3 days. Our meals are labeled with macro nutrients, portion sizes, and a ‘use-by’ label to indicate shelf life for cold storage at home after purchase. We acknowledge the fact that everybody is different, and is very much deserving of having fresh, delicious meals that suit their unique preferences and lifestyles. In addition, our Fork To Fit mobile app makes it even easier for customers to place their orders ahead, pick up curbside or in our mobile order fridge, and rack up loyalty points for discounts and perks on any future visits.

As small business owners, we wholeheartedly believe business is an opportunity for growth, innovation, discovery, and progressive development for our diverse society. Since the dawn of our country’s industrial revolution, the engagement in commerce and business has supplemented our society with technological advances, economic growth, and discovery that have provided us all the resources at our disposal in our everyday lives today. But above all, business can be a vessel to do GOOD; to serve others and provide exceptional products and services that make a difference in the lives of every member of our community.
Are you involved in any initiatives that give back to the community? If so, please elaborate.
Fork To Fit Kitchen has launched numerous in-house campaigns to assist our local community! Our “Pay It Forward” campaign raised funds to provide meals for distribution at our RGV Food Bank. This led to our venture in creating “Fork To Fit Foundation,” a nonprofit set up to give back to our community by hosting charitable events and collaborating with other foundations in the Rio Grande Valley.
